John Brown Mayberry born 1858 in Wayne County IL was the son of Rev. William and Elizabeth (Brown) Mayberry. John Married Catherine "Katy" Anderson on Jab 23 , 1878
Catherine was raised by the William Johnson's after her mother died. The Mayberry children always called them grandpa and grandma Johnson
John and Catherine lived SE of Wayne City IL. John cleared 260 acres of ground. They had a large sucessful farm with a good amount of livestock. They raised, trained and sold teams of horses for $200 - $300 which at the time was a vast amount of money.
John bought 160 acres west of cross roads school and gave his sons Walter and Charlie 40 acres each. John also build each of his sons a house on their 40 acres. After Charlie died his widow Ducy lived with John and Elizabeth and Rev H.H. Mayberry often said I was raised by my grandpa and my Ma.
John died suddenly in 1931 and is buried in Olive branch cemetery.
