He cherished and valued life, loved people, and especially loved his family. We remember him for his positive attitude, resilience in adversity, and generous heart. He loved architecture and the arts, and was involved in community service, serving as co-chair of Festival '73, and as a Kent County Commissioner for four years. He enjoyed the challenge of business, loved to cook, golf, sail, and to grow vegetables in his garden. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 1, at 2 pm at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake Ave. Grand Rapids MI 49505. Visitation will take place at 1pm and a reception will follow the service. Robert Lawrence Broersma, age 84, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. The son of Lawrence & Grace (Wichers) Broersma, he was born on July 15, 1933 in Ruthton, Minnesota. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era.
