FRANCIS M. BOOKWALTER
Francis Marion Bookwalter, son of William H. and Elizabeth E. Bookwalter, was born July 7, 1869, in Fountain County, Ind., and died Dec. 8, 1946, at his heme in Beatrice, at the age of 77 years, 5 months and1 day. He had been in failing health for several years but remained active to the time of his death.

When he was a small boy, he came with his parents to Nebraska to settle on what is now known as the old Bookwalter home place in Pawnee county. There he had an Important part in the development of the community and the building of the Bookwalter Methodist church. At the age of 14 he suffered the loss of his mother.

May 6, 1891, he was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Knowles, and to this union two daughters and one son were born. He was actively engaged in farming until 1917, at which time he retired, and the family moved to Beatrice, where he lived until hls death.

Mr. Bookwalter was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, and the Elks club.

He Is survived by his wife, and his three children, Mrs. Jennie Manley of Beatrice, Mrs. Gertrude Andre of Beverly Hills, Calif.; and Fred of the Bookwalter vicinity. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; four sisters; Mrs. Lilllan Martin of Attica, Ind.; Mrs. Anna Megie and Mrs. Bertha Shinn of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Lyda Hurd of New York City; one brother, John W. of Burchard; other relative and many friends.

Frank, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a devoted, loving husband and father. His chief concern in life was for the comfort: and health of his loved ones and friends; He was a loyal friend and a good neighbor, and never was he happier than when his family and friends were gathered for a reunion. His generou hospitallty ahd cheerful greetings will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services, conducted by C. C. Deines, were held at the Harmon chapel in Beatrice Dec. 11, followed by service at the Bookwalter Methodist church, with burial in the Mission Creek cemetery.
