Alma Hernando Rogers was the son of Alma Denton Rogers, the pioneer teacher and dentist. Following in his father's footsteps he became an educator, serving both as teacher and principal in numerous schools. Later in life he moved East and pursued his career there. A multi-faceted person, he was brilliant and ferociously dedicated to his faith, but was also known to be mercurial and tyrannical. One of his sons-in-law once mentioned, "Neither the grandfather nor the father of the girl whose hand I sought in marriage, could tolerate mental ineptitude or stupidity of any kind." He died in Wilmington, Delaware while residing at the home of his son Victor C. Rogers.
