JOHN P. LARIMER

The subject of this sketch was born in Allegheny county, Pa., Feb. 3, 1828, and died at his home in Millersburg on Monday, August 31, 1908, aged 80 years, 6 months and 28 days. He located in Millersburg in 1855 and for many years was one of the well known and active business men of the town. Politically he was one of the old-time Democrats. He was Mayor of Millersburg, a Justice of the Peace for several years and held other positions of trust and honor. His friends always commented on the fact that he bore a striking resemblance to the great Indiana Democrat, the late Thomas A. Hendricks. On March 31, 1853, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Allison, who died Dec. 22, 1882. Three children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. One son, Charles E. Larimer of the Millersburg Mercantile Company, survives. On Dec. 24, 1884, he was married to Phoeba E. Wilbur, who survives him. One son was born to this union who died at the age of fifteen years. Some few years ago Mr. Larimer fell on the ice, striking on his head, since which time his health had been gradually declining. He was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, being one of the oldest members of that organization, and which order attended the funeral in body. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon services being conducted by Rev. McCracken of the Presbyterian church. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery. The family extend their thanks to the Presbyterian male quartette, the Odd Fellows and to the friends and neighbors who tendered their services and sympathy.
