Dorothy Abernathy Miller

Dorothy (Dot) Abernathy Miller died on Saturday the 21st of May 2023 at the age of 87. She died peacefully while surrounded by her family and caregivers. Dot was born on the 3rd of November, 1935 in Walnut Springs, Texas to O.V. and Minnie Belle Abernathy. She graduated from Walnut Springs High School and Baylor University in Waco, TX.
She met Matt S. Miller while attending Baylor and they married on the 29th of August 1959. Matt preceded her in death. Soon after their marriage, they moved to New Orleans and eventually settled down in Houston, Texas, where they raised their family. She was a member of Tallowood Baptist Church, Pi Beta Phi sorority, and the Junior League of Houston. Dot remained active with Baylor University and she and Matt attended many baseball and football games over the years. Dot and Matt remained committed to giving back to the community with their continued involvement with their churches, various Baylor foundations, and other worthy causes.
Dot is survived by her two children, Michelle Chambers and Mark Miller, along with Michelle's husband John and their three children, Andrew, Thomas, and James; and Mark's wife Alison and their daughter Alyssa. She is also survived by her amazing caregivers, Alta, Judy, Marilyn, and Ruth, who became part of the family over their years of service.
A funeral service will be held at Tallowood Baptist Church on Saturday the 3rd of June, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made in Dot Miller's name to the Amazing Place Houston (www.amazingplacehouston.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
