Major John Reid was born in Basking Ridge,NJ. while his father was building the Flax mill for Lord Sterling. Shortly thereafter the family moved north to Argyle,NY. He married Margaret Cambell in February of 1793 and purchased the Lick Farm from his father in 1798. It also appears his second wife was Anna McArthur and third was a Sarah as their stones are beside his. It has been said that he was promoted to major while in the NYS Guard.
