Cindy Marie Batiste Sutherland was the third daughter born to the late Sidney J. Batiste, Sr., and Anita H. Batiste on April 14, 1961. On Friday, May 12, 2023, she entered her home of eternal rest at the age of 62.
Cindy was baptized at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie, LA, where she remained a parishioner.
She was a 1979 graduate of St. James High School and on July 12, 1980, she married her high school sweetheart, Allen J. Sutherland.
Their union was blessed with two children: Lanel and Jamie Sutherland.
She was a healthcare professional until her retirement and was a dedicated and very active member of the Good Children Benevolent Association.
A strong woman with so much love, Cindy always had a joke for you. She enjoyed sports, especially watching her granddaughter Sa'Vya play softball and basketball. However, one of her favorite past times was to watch the Saints football games with her family. She also enjoyed surfing the internet and a good competitive game of Spades during every holiday function.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her two daughters, Lanel and Jamie Sutherland (Chez). Her three granddaughters, Sa'Vya, Solei, and Myracle Sutherland; Her mother, Anita Batiste; two sisters, Dr.Gail Brazile (Herbert), Barbara Batiste; two brothers, Sidney Jr. (Lana), Derren (Sherell); two sister-in-laws, Zedel Oubre (Harry), Mathilda Borne; six brothers-in-law, Clinton Jr., Eugene (Marilyn), Gary, Herman (Charlene), Thaddeus (Laura) and Charles Geason. Four godchildren, Tremaine Lightfoot, Marissa Dumas, Prudence Aubert, Hailey Armant, her best friend, Stephanie Keller, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen J. Sutherland; her father, Sidney Baptiste, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Geason, Elaine Sutherland; three brother-in-laws, James Gros, Sr., Meldon Borne, and Tyrone Sutherland.
A Mass of Christian burial honoring Cindy Marie Sutherland will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 13281 LA-644, Vacherie, La 70090. Fr. Matthew McCaughey, celebrant. Visitation begins at 11 am. Mass will begin at 1 pm. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church Cemetery.
