Charles "Kent" Downey, age 86, of Newton Falls and formerly of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Kent is survived by his three daughters and two-sons-in-law, all of Ogdensburg; a sister of Ogdensburg, NY; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by longtime partner, Eleanor Sears.
Kent is predeceased by a son, Todd Downey in 2014; a daughter, Robin Downey in 2023; a brother, Rod Downey in 1983 and a sister, Linda Cole in 2020.
Kent was born on September 11, 1936, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late Charles Henry and Thelma (Clark) Downey.
He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1955.
Kent married Agnes Mae LaJoy on September 20, 1960, at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg, NY, with the Rev. Robert Giroux officiating. She predeceased him on January 5, 2005.
Kent first began his employment at McAdams Garage and later as a mechanic for many years at Trimm's Garage.
Later, Kent joined the Ogdensburg Fire Department in February of 1965 and later retired as a Fireman in February of 1998.
Kent enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpentry. Kent was a snowbird in the winter traveling to Hendersonville, NC and spent the summers in Cranberry Lake, NY.
Burial in Cranberry Lake Cemetery.
