Born in Clinton County, Indiana on the Boyer family farm. In May 1941, the day after graduating from Franklin College, Roscoe was drafted into WWII. He served in the Army Air Corps, in the decorated 110th Observation Squadron, seeing action in the Philippines and Japan.
He married his wife, Margaret Anne Dillard, in Paoli, Indiana in 1947.
He went on to complete graduate school at IU in Bloomington Indiana.
Roscoe was then Recalled to Air Force service during the Korean War and then retired as a full colonel in the USAR Reserve,
He completed his graduate degree and began teaching at the University of Mississippi.
Margaret and Roscoe lived in Mississippi until his death.
