Obituary for Mrs. Doris "Dot" Louise Roberson Eames
Doris (Dot) Eames, 88, of Albany, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2023, at her home
surrounded by her loving family members Glenn, Stacey, grandson Andy, and sister Myrt.
Her memorial service will be at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Byne Memorial Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be held immediately following at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Charlie Brown
and Rev. Clay Bowden will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home on Monday from 5:30-7:30 PM.
Born in Milledgeville, Georgia, Dot moved permanently to Albany around 1948, where she attended
Albany High School. It was at a local ice cream shop where Dot met Paul Eames, a professional baseball
player with the Albany Cardinals, and they got married on home plate at Cardinal Park in Albany in 1952.
Dot's true passion in life was cooking delicious Southern food. She and her mother, Mama Betty,
showcased these skills at the very popular Hit and Run Restaurant, which they opened in the mid-60s.
In 1968, Dot was enticed by Deerfield School to open and manage their cafeteria, leading to a 42-year
career in which she touched and connected with over three generations of students. She loved her
students and was in turn adored by them, as well as the faculty and staff that she nourished every day.
Many of Dot's recipes became the inspiration for menu items at The Highland Bakery in Atlanta, GA,
owned by her daughter Stacey. Her son Glenn also mastered many of her recipes and they live on in his
catering business in Albany, GA. Until her last days, Dot continued to coach Glenn and Stacey whenever
they needed her expertise in the kitchen.
Dot was a devout member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and much of her time outside of work was
dedicated to serving her savior, Jesus Christ, through her service for Byne. She held various positions
with Byne, including nursery worker, treasurer, and teacher for her Sunday school department. She
loved her work with the WOM mission.
As a huge Braves fan, Dot loved her trips to Atlanta to watch the Braves play live. When that wasn't
possible, she was glued to the TV watching (and coaching!) her beloved Braves.
Dot is survived by her son Glenn Eames, Albany; daughter, Stacey Eames, Atlanta; and grandson Andy
Eames (Kat), Denver, CO; sister, Myrt McCorkle, Cairo, GA, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was
very proud to also have an adopted son, Jean Guzman (Megan) and granddaughter, Mila. She was
preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Gary, and mother Betty Knowles.
