Henry Jay "Hank" Auwerda, 81, of Morocco, IN passed away at his home on Thursday, May 18, 2023. He was born in Hammond, IN on July 7, 1941, and grew up in Highland, IN. He was a resident of DeMotte, IN for 43 years prior to moving to Morocco.
Hank was a 1959 graduate of Illiana Christian in Lansing IL, and then served in the National Guard. He was a salesman for RC Cola, Dairy Rich Foods, Kelly Foods and Keebler Cookies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Gertrude (Scott) Auwerda; siblings: Donald Auwerda and Gloria (Dennis) DeLeeuw; and nephew Danny Auwerda.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, July (Herrmann) Auwerda; son Aaron Auwerda (Susannah Rawlins); four grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are sisters: Grace Auwerda of Wheatfield, IN, Karen (Greg) Parker of Wheatfield, Trudy (Wayne) Boss of Wheatfield, Kathy (Harry) Ference of DeMotte, Jackie (Bill) Needles of Wheatfield, Lori Auwerda of Highland; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Hank was a member of the Morocco First United Methodist Church. He was previously a member of DeMotte First Reformed Church for 30 years, and Grace Fellowship for 4 years.
Visitation will be Friday, May 26, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church, 203 S. Clay St., Morocco, IN 47963. Pastor Susan Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Murphy Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Lifewise Academy for Morocco, IN. Steinke Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
