GREENSBORO, NC — Marjorie Lois Bass Goforth passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023. She was born in Newton Grove, NC, daughter of the late James Walton Bass and Mary Emma Honeycutt Bass.

After high school, Marjorie graduated from the National School of Commerce. She worked with the civil service for five years at Fort Bragg, NC. There she met her future husband, David L. Goforth, Sr., who was serving in the U.S. Army at Post Headquarters Medical Detachment, Ft. Bragg, NC. Marjorie and David were married in 1946. They moved to Greensboro that year and established Arrow Exterminators, Inc. which is still in business today.

Marjorie was a very active member of her church, West Market Street United Methodist Church, well into her 90's. She was a member and past President of the Morris Sunday School class.

Marjorie enjoyed many hobbies and interests over her 99-plus years. Golf was at the top of her list. She was a member of Starmount Country Club's Women's Golf Assoc., Piedmont Women's Golf Assoc., and NC Senior Women's Golf Assoc. Marjorie was also a member of the Greensboro Lady Lions Club, where she was a past President, The Open Gate Garden Club, The Greensboro Lecture League, The Greensboro History Museum, and the Guilford Chapter 141 Order of the Eastern Star.

Marjorie was predeceased in death by her husband, David L. Goforth, Sr., her son, David L. Goforth, Jr., brothers, Maxton Honeycutt Bass, Walton Xyvon Bass, and sisters, Ursula Bass Baggett, and Dezree Miller Bass. She is survived by one sister, Mary John Bass Turner, one daughter, Mary-Ellen Goforth, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

We want to thank 1st Choice Home Care, Diane Loy, Marcia Joyce, and Marsha Dunn, caregivers extraordinaire. Also special thanks to Well Spring Skilled Nursing, who nurtured and loved her throughout her time with them.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 21,2023 at West Market Street United Methodist Church, 302 West Market St., Greensboro.
