Jane Ann (Vasto) Aluise, 100 years, 6 months, and 12 days of age, departed this life on December 26, 2008, at the Teresian House in Albany, New York, where she had resided for her last 9 ½ years, receiving loving care from all.


The last surviving member of the Joseph and Rose (Pagano) Vasto family from Giardini-Naxos, Italy, Jane was born on June 14, 1908, in Ravena, New York.


She was a kindhearted person and a devoted mother, always ready to help others. Jane cherished her home in Ravena, where she spent most of her life, tending to her many flowers or cooking in the kitchen.


Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Sylvester John Aluise, whom she married in Ravena on July 27, 1930, and who passed away on January 18, 1989.


She was also preceded by her siblings: Carmin, Katherine, Josephine, Sam, and two brothers who died in infancy, as well as her eldest nephew, Joseph Carmen Vasto.


She was survived by her only son, Blaise Paul Aluise, and his wife, Glen Ann, of Delmar; her two granddaughters, Jacqueline (Aluise) Mann of Maryland and Susan Aluise of Delmar; her great-grand-thriplets, Jesse, Kaitlin, and Megan Mann; a sister-in-law, Monique (Jouas) Vasto of Florida; her younger nephew, Carmin Francis Vasto of Ravena; and her niece, Rosemary (Vasto) Johnston of Florida.


A funeral Mass was held on Monday, December 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Teresian House Chapel. A calling hour preceded the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Teresian House in the Williamsberg Room.
