Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on August 29, 1862, age 36, and mustered on September 12, 1862, into Company K, 44th Massachusetts Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private.


The regiment was organized at Readville and mustered in on September 12, 1862. Moved to New Berne, N. C., October 22-27. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Dept. of North Carolina, to January 1863. Expedition from New Berne November 2-12, 1862.


Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Battle of Rawl's Mills; Battle of Kinston; Battle of Goldsborough Bridge; Siege of Washington, North Carolina.


In late April 1863, the regiment moved to New Berne where, for the next two months, they participated in patrols and reconnaissance expeditions.


The regiment returned to Boston on June 10 and mustered out on June 18, 1863, at Readville, Massachusetts.


Widow Pension filed on August 29, 1890 (Application No. 476,703 and Certificate No. 323,504).
