Dorothy Anne (Strickland) Miller went to her heavenly home May 8, 2023 after a short illness.

She was the daughter of the late S. Monroe and Anne (Neighbors) Strickland and was born on September 30, 1931 in Kingstree, South Carolina.

Dorothy Anne, affectionately known as Mommers by her grandchildren, moved to be nearer to them and was a resident of Port Orange, Florida since 2018.

Dorothy Anne grew up in Charleston, SC and was the oldest of three girls. She graduated from Meminger High School, an all-girls school and was in the last graduating class in 1950. She enjoyed many reunions with her classmates over the years. She spoke often of their 70th high school reunion in early March of 2020 where 16 of her classmates gathered at the Episcopal Church.

She met her husband of 41 years, Gene Miller, at Citadel Square Baptist Church. They were married there on September 6, 1952 and had four children: David, Mark, Barbara (Stewart) and John. Dorothy Anne loved singing in the church choir and was a soloist for many years. She was a happy, loving homemaker who loved making a big pot of soup. She used gentle wisdom with subtle humor to help guide her children. Dorothy Anne loved doing crossword puzzles and reading a good book. She and her family enjoyed traveling to over 48 states and Canada, as they were avid campers. After moving to John's Island, to live with her sister, Jean, in the late 1990's, she and her best friend since third grade, Rosie Bolchoz Willard, joined the Charleston Hat Ladies. Their motto was to "spread joy" by wearing beautiful bonnets all over Charleston! What fun they had!!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Howard Miller, her sister, S. Jean (Ralph Sr.) Brown, her son, David Miller, and her son-in-law, John Stewart.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Norma (Robert) Tolbert, children: Mark Miller, Barbara Stewart and John Miller, grandchildren: Michael Miller, Will Phillips, Mark Stewart-Vlasov, Michael Stewart, Rachel Stewart and Anne Marie Stewart as well as her beloved great granddaughter, Marley Silva.

There will be a celebration of life at Victorious Life Church in Port Orange, Florida on Sunday May 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm EST. She will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, NC.
