Grew up on the family farm in Kragnes Township, Minnesota, and attended Oak Mound School. He belonged to the Oak Mound 4-H Club while growing up. Bought the former Houge/Hauge farm near North Buffalo Church in Kragnes Township and lived there for many decades until moving into Moorhead. He served on the Kragnes Township Board as a supervisor.

OBITUARY

Morton Walter Brendemuhl was born November 6, 1932, in Moorhead, MN, to Walter and Alice (Johnson) Brendemuhl.

Morton began farming full-time at the age of fourteen, after his father's sudden death. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953, and served in the communications crew in Germany until 1955.

Morton was joined in marriage to Elizabeth Mandelke in 1955, until her death in 1963. He then married Janice Richards in 1965, in Georgetown, MN. Janice preceded Morton in death in 2019.

Life wasn't always easy for Mort, but he made it through with a generous heart and an incredible work ethic that he has passed on to the younger generations. His greatest loves were his family, friends, and farming.

Morton passed away peacefully at his home in Moorhead, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at ninety years of age.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Trish) Brendemuhl, Lake Park, MN, Irene (Dan) Bertils, Crookston, MN, Duane (Michelle) Brendemuhl, Moorhead, Janell (Marc) Hartjen, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Kari Jo (Lyle) Kantrovich, Delano, MN; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor (Jim) Fischer; and a brother, Ollie (Diana) Brendemuhl.

In addition to his wives, Morton was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol, and a brother, Warren.

Visitation for Morton will be Friday, May 19, 2023, from 6 – 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 10 AM. Burial will take place in Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown, MN.
