Carolyn Elizabeth Cowell
March 11, 1952 - August 23, 2022

Carolyn E. Cowell gained her wings and walked with the angels after a short battle with cancer on August 23, 2022. She was loved and will be missed terribly. She was the daughter of the late Charles Brown and Mattie Brown and proceeded in death by her brother, Robert Smith. Carolyn's legacy is succeeded by her everlasting love, and common law spouse of over 30-years, Reginald Joyner, her daughter, Carolyn Williams (Edwin), and her son, Charles Cowell; two bonus daughters, Tamika Marsh and Ronnette Johnson (Ronald); her amazing grandchildren, Seirra Cowell (Ridge Willard), Lauryn Williams, one great grandchild, Khari Willard and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Carolyn was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. She was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and attended Norfolk State University. She had various jobs throughout her life. The last job she accepted was a position at the Norfolk Navy Exchange where she worked for over 20 years. The Navy Exchange became her (work) home and the interaction she had with her co-workers made it easier for her to go to work every day. She loved to laugh and had an amazing personality. But the job she loved the most was her role as a grandmother. It would be wrong to say that Carolyn lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was determined when anyone else would have broken. Carolyn stayed strong. There was no quit in Carolyn. She always provided support and love for her family and friends. She enjoyed going shopping and going out to dinner with her family. She also loved when we had family dinners at her daughter's house, and she would have amazing conversations just sitting outside on the front porch. She loved spending time with Reggie and friends laughing and joking. Anyone who knew her that she loved to talk junk to people. She would let you know if she liked you or not. Her beautiful smile would light up a room when she walked in. She had a big heart.
