Dorothy Jean Stewart Uzzell
Dorothy Jean (Stewart) Uzzell Dorothy Jean (Stewart) Uzzell, 77, passed away on February 28, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was born and raised in Austin, TX and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1948. Dorothy worked for the University of Texas, the IRS, and retired from the Teacher Retirement System. She was a devoted lifetime member of Southwest Church of Christ. Dorothy was a very loving and giving person. She was well-known for her homemade chocolate pie, it would arrive at your doorstep if you were sick or in need. She was very patriotic and loved to watch UT football. She had an undying love for the Lake Travis area, from which her father's ancestors settled. She was voted "Fan of the Year" from the Lake Travis Cavaliers, and attended every football and basketball game she could. Dorothy was a member of the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce. Her favorite pastime was talking on the phone to all her family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Ret. Col. Arthur L. Stewart, Jr. and wife, Helene; sister, Betty Hanson; daughter, Dianne Edwards and husband, James; son, Craig Uzzell and Robin Wuensche; granddaughter, Whitney Kelly and husband John; a very special great granddaughter, Caitlyn Kelly; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and Valene Slaid of Houston and Ellon Gustafson of Bertram, her longtime friends since childhood. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Teck Cemetery, RR 620, Lakeway. Thank you to all her friends and family who visited and called to check on her the last two years; especially, June Reese, a very dear friend and our adopted family member, and Zoe Ann Mason, who came numerous times to visit and take her to church. The family would like to thank the staff at Sagebrook Health Center for their truly loving care and the Odyssey Hospice Group. They are all clearly angels in disguise.
