Prominent Fort Wayne Citizen. Attended Lafayette College 1846-48; graduated from Washington College VA in 1849; engaged in the construction of the Panama Railroad.

Captian Godown served with company K, of the 12th Indiana Infantry from 1861 - 1865. He participated in 28 battles, including Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Mission Ridge and Sherman's Famous March to the Sea.

Served as Fort Wayne City Clerk, civil engineer and well-known Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway official.

Secretary of Board of State House Commissioners, engaged in building new State House in Indianapolis...The Men of Lafayette, pg. 191.
