William James "Billy" Abels, 67, died in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. He was the son of William Edward and Agnes Virginia MConnell Abels. He had five siblings.

He was born in Savannah Andrew County, Missouri. He met and fell in love with the love of his life, Nancy Idella "Nannie" Etchison on July 22, 1907. To their happy union, they had one child, Virginia M. Abels. In about 1913, he moved with his family to Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. He was a weight man for the Colorado Springs Light, Heat, and Power Company. He then changed his profession and became a fireman for the P & P Fuel Company. He proudly performed this duty for more than 25 years.

He was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 6 years prior to his death. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage (CVA--stroke) and was a hemiplegic. He suffered from diabetic gangrene of his extremities for 7 weeks which ultimately killed him.

He died 8 months after his beloved Nannie passed away.

He was buried on December 16, 1949 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Swan Funeral Home in Colorado Springs, Colorado was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
