William C. "Bill" Totherow, Sr., 81, of Sale Creek, formerly of Hixson, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
He was born on August 7, 1926 in DeKalb County, Al. Bill accepted Christ in 1945 in the South Pacific while serving in the Navy during World War II. He proudly celebrated his 63rd spiritual birthday this past Monday. He was a member of Covenant Church where he was the head usher and served on several committees.
After the war he was a graduate of Edmondson Business College, former employee with DuPont Corporation and owned and operated several businesses including A-1 Portable Buildings for the past 26 years.
He was a great family man who loved his wife and family more than anything and enjoyed taking everyone out to eat.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Totherow; son, Aaron Totherow; parents, Martin and Hattie Totherow; siblings, Hugh, Herb, Chester, Jessie, Ola, Lloyd, Paul David.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Totherow; children, June (Von) Franklin, Donna (Bob) Banks, Bill Hindmon, William Calvin (Felicia) Totherow, Jr., Joe (Lisa) Totherow and Jon (April) Totherow; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James and Charles Totherow; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Graybeal; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Covenant Baptist Church, 9259 Hixson Pike, with Rev. Marcus Clagg, Rev. Paul Stuart and Rev. Joseph Totherow officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. on Friday at Covenant Church.
