Daughter of Thomas Tankersley and Elizabeth Chasteen Tankersley. She first married Joseph McQuerry and they would go on to have 4 children before his untimely death in 1883. She then married Elbert K. Cook and they would have two daughters together before Mary's untimely death in 1888 when she was just 39 years old.
