Bruce Aschim, a 65-year member of Portland Yacht Club, and Commodore in 1988, has crossed the bar.
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Bruce attended Kennedy Elementry School and Jefferson High School in Portland. After high school, he served in the US Navy. Following his service, he returned home to pursue his education at Portland State University.
In 1955, Bruce met his wife Rachael while skiing on Mt. Hood. They were married the following year and had two children - Brenda and Bryan.
The Aschims joined PYC in 1958 with their first boat Rainbow, a Geary 18 (Flattie). As a member of PYC, Bruce first served as a Trustee in 1962 and 1963, at the age of 32. He is listed as one of the youngest trustees in PYC history. He also held the postions of Sailing Captain and Librarian. During Bruce and Rachael's term as Commodore and First Lady, they sailed Sutter's Gold, a 36 foot Islander Freeport.

We will lower the club burgee for three days in Bruce's honor starting Tuesday, April 11th.
