Alexander T. Dixon was enlisted on May 11, 1862, by Capt. W. A. Love at DeKalb, Mississippi, for 3 years. He mustered in to the Kemper Fencibles, W. A. Love, captain, as private; this company subsequently became Company K, 43rd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry. Company K muster roll for September and October 1862 shows 4 Corp. A. T. Dixon absent, sick at home. He was in the hospital at Vicksburg on January 2, 1863. Company K muster roll for January and February 1863 shows him absent without leave since February 11, 1863.

Pvt. Alex. T. Dixon was captured by the Army of the Tennessee at Chickasaw Bayou on May 21 or 22, 1863, and sent to Memphis, Tennessee, on May 25 as a Prisoner of War.

He was received at Fort Delawere, Delaware, on June 9, 1863, and died in hospital there the next month, on July 19, while a Prisoner of War.
