At an early age she professed her faith in Christ, and at the time of her death, was an active and faithful member of Phillipsburg Christian Church. She enjoyed the interaction with her church family, and treasured the Christian fellowship.
Mildred graduated from Stoutland High School, and after graduation began working at "Mattinglys Dime Store", where one day, while working, she sold shoe laces to the musician, Eddie Arnold. He was awestruck by her beauty and entranced by her friendly smile, and asked her out on a date.
On March 11, 1946, she was united in marriage with Gayle Broyles. To this union was born three children. She and Gayle had celebrated sixty-two blissful years of marriage, one day prior to her passing.
After marriage, she and Gayle moved to Sedalia where she began working for Brown Shoe Company. While in Sedalia, she also sang on KDRO radio station with her brother and a friend. She had a great musical talent and enjoyed the time she spent on the radio and the memories she made.
In 1947, they moved back to Lebanon, and Mildred became a homemaker. She stayed home to run the household and raise her daughters. Once the girls were raised, she worked part time at the court house in the Collectors Office.
Mildred was very active and had a variety of past times. She loved the outdoors, doing yard work and tending to both her flower and vegetable gardens. She found tranquility in reading and valued quiet moments spent reflecting on family memories as she put photo albums together. However, she most treasured the moments spent with her loving family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their many sporting events.
She is survived by her husband Gayle; two daughters, Gloria Wilson and her husband David Terry, and Gayla Appleberry, all of Lebanon; two brothers, Forrest Brown and his wife Wanda of Lebanon, and Clifford Brown and his wife Sheila of O'Fallon, MO; three sisters, Dorothy Olson and her husband Ruben of Lebanon, Evelyn Balch of Fort Worth, TX, and Crystal Manning and Rick Carlson of Petaluma, CA; four grandchildren, T.J. Wilson and his wife Kara, Mya Appleberry, Walt Appleberry, and Clayton Appleberry and his wife Lacy; four great-grandchildren, Sean and Conner Wilson, Ian Appleberry, and Tristan Johnson; a host of other relatives and many friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, a newborn son, Larry J. Broyles, three brothers, Raymond, David and Dennis Brown, and one sister, Lucille Hummel.
A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend with the ability to light up a room with a simple smile, it will not soon be forgotten what a positive impact she left on those who knew and loved her.
