13 September 1971: A 74-year-old Palmyra man was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-car accident Saturday afternoon on the Mt Joy Road in Lancaster County. Lancaster state police identified the victim as Amos P Aunspach, 1027 S. Green St. Palmyra. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lancaster County coroner, Dr Newton Kendig. Dr. Kendig listed the cause of death as heart attack. The accident occurred at about 2 p.m. State police report that Aunspach was traveling south on the Mt. Joy Road, about two miles south of Manheim, in Rapho Township, when his car veered to the left and struck a utility pole. Aunspach was born in Lebanon County, a son of the late Daniel and Elmira Smith Aunspach. He was a veteran of World War I, a private in the Coast Artillery Corps, Ninth Company. He was a charter member of Conner-Streicher 559, American Legion, Annville; the Forty and Eight of Lebanon; the World War I Barracks. He was also a social member of the Washington Band. His wife, the former Emma Sattasahn, died in June 1968. A son, Arlen, lost his life in World War II. He is survived by two sons, Floyd R., Annville RD 2, and Amos D., with whom he made his home; two daughters, Lila, wife of Kenneth Schools, Lebanon, and Mrs. Jeanette Bloss, Pottsville; 18 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bishop, Palmyra.
