In memory of James Knox, who died at Merkland School, on December 11th 1842, aged 16 months. Also of William Knox, student in Arts, who died at Merkland School, May 3rd 1866, aged 17 years. Also of their parents; Rachel Cowan, who died at Merkland School, October 6th 1877, aged 68 years. And Alexander Knox, Parochial Schoolmaster at Merkland, who died there June 6 1878, aged 76 years. Also Isabella, daughter of the above, who died at Dalbeattie, on the 9th of Sept. 1885, aged 32 years. Also Margaret Cowan, eldest daughter of the above Alexander Knox, who died at Prescot, 2nd May 1906, aged 72 years.
