HEMET, CALIF.- Hester Lorene Battles, 85, a resident of Hemet for 25 years, died there Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000.
Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Friday at McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet. Private burial was in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery. Dr. Edward Rodda and members of Tahquitz-Victoria Chapter No. 241, Order of the Eastern Star officiated.
She was born Oct. 4, 1914, in Paris, Tx. She and her husband owned an appliance store in Westminister, Calif., for 16 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hemet and was a charter member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 626 in Texas City and affiliated into Tahquitz-Victoria Chapter No 241, in Hemet in 1976 and was a past matron of the chapter. She enjoyed Eastern Star activities, crocheting and sewing.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Hershel W. Battles; daughters, Sharon Battles and Patricia Conveau, both of Hemet; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Edward and Willie Harbin Whitaker; a son, Adrian Alton Battles; and brothers, Olvin, Tom, Hugh, and Hubert.
