Phyllis M. Troyer, age 71 of Smithville, died on Monday, December 24, 2007 at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster surrounded by her family. A public memorial services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville, OH. Revs. Joel Short and Terry Zehr will be officiating. A private burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Smithville, OH on Saturday December 29, 2007.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007, 4 -8Pm at Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd. Smithville, OH. The family suggests that friends may make a donation to Oak Grove Mennonite Church,. The Sunshine Foundation, Mennonite Disaster Service, all in care of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd.,Smithville, OH 44677, or Hospice and Pallative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Raod, Wooster,OH 44691 in her memory.

She was born June 05, 1936 at Massillon, Ohio, the daughter of Homer and Bertha (Martin) Gresser. She married Willis D. Troyer on September 1, 1956 and he survives.

Phyllis graduated from Smithville High School in 1954 and attended Goshen College. She was employed as secretary in the X-ray department of University Hospitals while Willis was in 1-W Service when they were first married. She was a homemaker and also the clerk of Greene Township for 20 years. Phyllis was an active member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church and volunteer at Wooster Community Hospital. She and Willis volunteered for Sunshine Children's home in Maumee (where their daughter Louise lived) for many years. They had received the Spirit of Sunshine volunteer award in May of 1997. She and Willis had been actively volunteering with Mennonite Disaster Service for the last 7 years.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Willis, children Cheryl (Terry) Zehr of Elkhart, Indiana and Dan (Karen) Troyer of Smithville, sister Nancy (Leonard) Douce of Wooster, brother Philip Gresser of Wooster and 5 grandsons: Thomas Troyer, Steven Troyer, Timothy Troyer, David Zehr and Justin Zehr as well as extended family.

Preceding her in death are Homer Gresser (Father), Bertha Martin (Mother), and her two daughters Janet and Louise.
