Claude is the son of William Marvin "Will" Hyde and Amanda Magnolia "Maggie" Crisp. He was born in Graham county but by 1930 was living in the "male colony" at Dix Hospital in Raleigh.

Claude is a brother to Inez, Vernon, Ruth, Noma, Evelyn, Herman and Melvin Lee Hyde. Melvin would die at the age of 5.

Claude was admitted to the Western NC asylum in the Summer of 1931 and died here 2 years later of epilepsy. He had not married.

His mother would die 4 months after Claude, of tuberculosis. His father would succumb to cancer of the jaw in 1935.
