Wm. Abbett, Pioneer, Dead. Was Leader in G.A.R. & Masonic Circles. William A. Abbett, 82 years old, a resident of Des Moines since the civil war, died at his home, 1052 Twenty-Sixth Street, yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock.
He had been in fair health and had spent Saturday at his work with the Dudley Insurance agency in the Securities building where he had been for five years, despite his advanced age.
He had been suffering from influenza which suddenly turned to pneumonia and he steadily became worse yesterday until death came.
In 1886 Mr. Abbett was master of Pioneer lodge, Masons and was the oldest living past master at the time of his death. He was a member of Crocker post of the G.A.R. & a past commander of the organization.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Dunn’s funeral establishment with Dr. Howland Hanson and Rev. Robert T. Craig officiating. Members of the Pioneer lodge and of the G.A.R. Will attend. The service for deceased members at the funeral, followed by Masonic burial. Mr. Abbett is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. A.E.McCallum, Des MOines; Mrs. C.G.Hosters, Orange City, Ia., and Miss Emma Abbett, Des MOines and two sisters, Mrs. J.W.Adams, Fredonis, Kan., and Mrs. J.J.Fletcher, Wilson, Kan. The two sisters are expected here for the funeral.
