KITTERY, Maine -- Hermia Elizabeth Campbell Plummer, 92, of Keen Avenue, died on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, N.H.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1914, in Sangerville, the daughter of Hannibal H. and Grace (Cunningham) Campbell. She attended local schools including Foxcroft Academy and graduated from Sangerville High School in 1932.

In 1933, she married Frank E. Plummer, her loving husband of more than 61 years. They made their home in Dexter and for a short time in Dover, N.H., before returning to Milo, Maine.

She is survived by her children, daughters Sandra P. and her husband, Paul Hooper, of Kittery and Shirley P. Johnson and Rear Adm. Pierce J. Johnson, U.S. Navy (ret.), of Virginia, and son Capt. Galen Plummer, U.S. Navy (ret.), and his wife, Barbara, of Belfast, Maine; her grandchildren, Christopher and Timothy Hooper, Benjamin, Stephen and Samuel Johnson, Daphne and Jason Plummer, David, Rebecca Plummer and Sandy Stroud and their husbands and wives; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1995; her son, Lt. Col. Gerald Plummer, in 1987; her sisters, Martha Watson and Alice Bell; and her brothers, Lewis, Elmer, Harris, Samuel, Robert and Charles Campbell.

WE REMEMBER: Hermia and Frank settled on Keen Avenue in Kittery in 1958, where they raised a family. She was an active member of the Kittery Point Baptist Church; she served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and member of the board of trustees, and was an active participant in many church functions throughout the years.

Many will remember her time as a volunteer in the lunchroom at the Horace Mitchell School in Kittery Point.

A talented handcrafter, she enjoyed and excelled at the art of quilting and many have been beneficiaries of her fine work over the years. A warm and inviting home was awaiting all who visited her; many enjoyed her wonderful hospitality, always ensuring everyone was well fed.

She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her in return.

SERVICES: Friends may visit with Hermia's family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, at her church, the First Baptist Church in Kittery Point. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Gerald Plummer Scholarship Fund, c/o R.W. Traip Academy, or the American Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
