A resident of Martin Manor Apartments since they opened, Mrs. Mary Frances Barnard died Friday at her home. She was 96.
Mrs. Barnard lived alone but was looked after by her daughters through the years. She had been blind from glaucoma 15 years and had lost her hearing a number of years ago.
She was born and raised at Hebron, the daughter of Sam and Lizzie Davis Killingsworth. She and her husband, Robert (Bob) Barnard, who helped build the old river bridge, moved to Guntersville in 1928. They moved back to the country a few years later. Her husband died about 28 years ago and she moved back to Guntersville when Martin Manor opened.
She was a member of the Hebron Methodist Church. She loved to sew and crochet.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Ada Bell Cornelius and Mrs. Lois Walls, both of Guntersville, and Mrs. Sadie Self of Birmingham; two sons, Edward Barnard of Utah and Shirley Barnard of California; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Harry Kirkley and Rev. Woodrow Franklin conducted the graveside funeral services Sunday at Walker Cemetery. Carr Funeral Home directed.
