Ellic L Alexander Bennett is the son of Jeremiah "Jerry" Bennett and Myra Ledford. Born in Mitchell county he had 3 brothers, Gillam, William and Samuel, along with seven sisters, Vira, Jane, Elizabeth, Omi, Phoebe, Priscilla and Mandy. Their father served in the NC 3rd mounted infantry during the Civil War.

Ellic wed Mary Jane Bennett and they are the parents of Calvin Lee, William and Ida. He served as a clergyman in Streets, Mitchell county, Greens Creek of Polk county and in Rutherford county. Ellic was admitted to the asylum in 1936 from Cleveland county and died 9 years later of coronary thrombosis.
