Ellen Marie Baptist, 81, San Rafael, California, and formerly of Laramie, WY, died Feb. 15, 2006, after surviving multiple sclerosis for over 55 years.
She was born March 2, 1924 in Rackett, Nebraska.
She was raised and graduated High School in Oshkosh, NE.
During World War II she lived in San Diego and Vallejo, CA, where she was a teletype operator for Western Union, and a volunteer for the USO.
After the war, she moved to Casper, where she met Oren C. Baptist. They were married on March 1, 1947 and moved to Laramie, WY.
While in Laramie, she was a life long member of Beta Sigma Phi. In 1968, she moved to San Rafael, CA, where she learned to play the organ, and became active in the Organ Club along with her sorority.
She loved to dance, enjoyed big band music, a new recipe, and travel.
Survivors include her 101-year-old mother, Sarah M. Bandy; a daughter, Linda Marie Stockton; a grandson, Sean Patrick Barry and wife, Tylene; and three great-grandchildren, Breana, Isabella, and Mateo.
Donations in her name can be made to Hospice of Marin, or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
There will be a small ceremony and internment at Turkey Creek Cemetery in Uniontown, Kansas, where her husband is buried.
