Bill Haynes, a 56-year resident of Irving, went to greet his Lord on the night of April 15, 2023 after a week-long hospital stay. Bill was born in Springhill, Louisiana on December 21, 1930 to Ruel and Esther (Dees) Haynes.

He and Carolyn (also known as "Carol" or "Candy") were married on September 07, 1956. They were blessed with two children, Michelle Denise and Randall Reed.

A member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Bill loved his Lord, and was greatly fulfilled in teaching his Senior Men's Class. Bill was especially fond of using the teachings of G. Campbell Morgan, C.H. Spurgeon, and J. Vernon McGee as resources while preparing his lessons for the class.

Bill was employed in several Passenger Services capacities during his 40 year long tenure with American Airlines.

Bill had a great sense of humor, an exceptional story telling ability, and a great love of Country music, Gospel music, Western books and media, and Indian (Native American) history. Books by Tabor Evans, Tony Hillerman, and anything by Dan Jenkins were some of his favorites.

Bill also had a fine singing voice until recent years. In his early years, he developed many friendships in the Country Music Industry. During this time he occasionally sang, as well as, D.J.'ed, on "The Louisiana Hayride". He and Carol's involvement with Irving Community Theatre during the early years of their marriage also led to his robust performance of 'Mr. Bumble' in the production of "Oliver Twist".

Bill was known to have a sweet tooth. Bill loved chocolate – anything chocolate, including: pies, cakes, cookies, brownies (which he referred to as his 'fudgies'), candy, icecream, etc.

Another great passion of Bill's was the game of golf. He never met a golf course he didn't like!. Whether it was College Golf, Men's Golf, Champion's Tour, Senior Tour, Women's Tour or any other USGA or PGA sponsored golf event you could be sure that if there was television coverage Bill's tv was tuned to it. He also had the distinction of having a "hole in one" published in the local paper. Bill was also an avid game player; although he occasionally 'tweaked' the rules in his favor! He was especially fond of card games, and known for playing a 'mean' game of Hearts and Spades.

Bill served with the Occupation Forces of Japan as a pilot and control tower operator during his duty with The U.S. Army Air Corp (later known as The U.S. Air Force.) During his service in Japan, he especially enjoyed playing sports as a quarterback for his squadron football team and a pitcher for his squadron's baseball team.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel and Esther, his brothers Andrew 'Sonny' (Lola) Haynes, Terry (Ann) Haynes; three sisters, Mary Ann (A.V.) Ball, Bobbie (Leslie) Jackson and Lovey Haynes.

Bill is survived by his wife of 66 ½ years, Carolyn Haynes, his daughter Michelle Denise Haynes Edwards (Ed) of North Carolina and his son Randall Reed Haynes of Irving, Tx. Bill is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends he held so dear. Bill is also survived by two of his greatest joys; his grandsons John Taylor Reed Edwards of North Carolina and Joshua Daniel Reed Haynes of Keller, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Bill Haynes name may be made to Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 N. Story Road, Irving, Texas 75061.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas with the Rev. Ken Branam officiating. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Irving, 606 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas.
