Graveside Services for Erma Louise Carpenter, 92, of Gilmer, Texas, are
scheduled for 4:00 pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Willow Oak
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm, at
McWhorter Funeral Home.
Erma was born on October 27, 1930, in Pittsburg, Texas, to James
Lester and Rosa Katherine Fielden Carpenter, and passed from this life
on April 20, 2023.
Erma began her career with J. B. White Company in Pittsburg, Texas,
working as a seasonal cashier. She was soon transferred to the corporate
headquarters in Jacksonville, Texas where she held numerous positions,
such as going to market for the company, new store openings, a
stockholder, and all business operations. She later managed the Rusk
store as well. She worked for 40 years, until her retirement, and was
always passionate about her job. Erma was a long-time, active member
of the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville. She loved to
travel, fish, play forty-two with family and friends, and was a member of
a bowling league. Erma was a classy lady, who was always dressed to
the nines and loved her family and friends deeply.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Peggy Carpenter;
niece, Lisa Barber, and her husband, David; and her great-niece,
Madeline Barber.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clyde Carpenter; and
her nephew, Mark Carpenter.
