beloved son of John Wesley Coffman and Ruby Leona Bailes Coffman
Athens, Alabama, August 21, 1945
My Uncle John Wesley Coffman was driving his truck north on Jefferson Street. Clyde Hannah was driving Lester White's grocery pedaling truck west on Pryor Street. At the intersection of Pryor and Jefferson, Mr Hannah violated the traffic signal and ran into Mr. Coffman's truck. Several were seriously injured and hospitalized, all finally recovered with the exception of little five year old Billy Wayne who passed away within a few hours. He was carried to Powers Hospital which was on the corner of the same intersection of the incident. This child passed away sometimes during that night with his father by his side.
