Born in Louisville, KY he was the son of the late Jesse and Rosella Abel. Jesse lived in North Stonington for the past eight years, previously residing in Brooklyn and Central Village, CT.
Jesse spent much of his career serving his country honorably in the U.S. Navy retiring in 1987 as Senior Chief.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed playing golf. He was an EMT, a member of the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Department and the North Stonington Bible Church where he was active in Bible Study.
In addition to his wife Louise of thirty-four years, he leaves his four children, Wanda Parker (James); Danny Abel (Petra) all of ME; Pamela Branche (David) of Preston CT and Patrick Abel of ME; his two step-children, Sarah Proulx (Steven) and Cora Araujo (Brian) all of West Warwick, RI; two brothers, Thomas Abel (Lois) and Tony Abel all of MA; ten grandchildren, Eric, Nicholas, Rebecca, Rachel, Cheryl, Scott, Lindsey, Amber, Emily and Bryan; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brook, Matthew, Alyssa, Lilliana, Hazel Renee, and Avery and Abel; his brother-in-law, Paul St. Amand (Susan), three sisters-in-law, Ann-Marie Kelly, Maggie Leroux and Shirley St. Amand, all of RI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jesse was predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie, a grandson, Shawn and a brother-in-law, Denis St. Amand.
His family will receive relatives and friends Monday, April 24th from 5-7 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A service will be held Tuesday, April 25th at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be buried with military honors at the CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown at 1:00 pm.
