Upon graduation, Jon moved to Mesa, AZ to play baseball for Mesa Community College. In 1986, he graduated from the University of Arizona.
Jon married Cindi Johnson in 1985 and from that union had two sons, Tanner and Trase. Together they raised their sons in Arizona. Jon's truest love was his boys and teaching them the love of sports, to hunt, fish, motorbike, cook and fireworks. They loved all he loved and spent countless hours doing those things. Jon treasured his dogs and they went everywhere with him. Sadly, both recently passed.
Jon continued to work and live in Arizona until recent years when he joined his sons back in his home town of Brookings where he continued to enjoy time with his boys and grandchildren.
