Wilma Amarylis Allen Carson, age 88, of Newport passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
Amarylis Carson went home to the Lord today and is reunited with her husband Johnnie in union with all God's saints. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie, parents Creed and Vella Allen, and is survived by her daughter Julia Conner, son David Carson (Charlene), granddaughter Jennifer Cannon and Jessica Carson (Elizabeth Wells), as well as her sister Roma Walker and brother Arlen Allen, in addition to two great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
Amarylis was a native of Newport and a long-time member if First Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and contributing member for most of her 88 years. Her faith remained solid throughout her life.
She graduated from Cocke County High School in 1952 and attended Knoxville Business College. She worked in the early 1970's in the cafeteria at CCHS, but most if her employment was a teacher's aide at Edgemont Elementary School. She loved gardening and yard work and was a voracious reader. She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for family and friends. She was a good and patient mother who adopted all her children's friends, many of whom called her Mom. She was a loving and caring friend to others and was a devoted caregiver, taking care of both of her parents and parents-in-law in their later stages of life.
Parkinson's disease took its toll on her through sixteen years of struggle. She was a quiet, unassuming person, but she possessed an inner strength beyond measure. She lived a good life and is now whole again.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center and Smoky Mtn Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion.
Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
