A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Ms. Swayngim was a 1965 graduate of Erwin High
School and retired as a CNA from WNC Baptist Retirement Home. She was a member of Emma Baptist Church.
Ms. Swayngim was the daughter of the late Council and Bethel Clark Messer. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard "Rick" Swayngim; brothers: Glenn Messer, Earl Messer, and sisters: Ruth Ellege, Linda Penland, Shirley Trantham.
Surviving are her son, Brian Swayngim and wife Selena; daughter-in-law, Ingrid Swayngim; and grandchildren: Gavin Swayngim, Grant Swayngim, Brandon Swayngim, and Sheena Hagan. Additionally, she maintained a lifelong special family bond with her nephew, Anthony 'Skip' Gregory and wife Lola, children Tyler and Malaya. And niece, Lisa Trantham Mitchell and husband Rob, children Kory, Kegan, and Chaise. She also has one surviving sibling, her brother Ray Messer.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Green Hills Cemetery, with Tim Warren officiating.
