The Nashville Banner, Wed. Oct 13, 1965: J. W. Alsup, dies; Owner Grocery: Julian Wesley Alsup, 64, of 1308 Shelton Ave., owner and operator of Alsup's Grocery on Berry Street for 20 years, died Tuesday night at a local infirmary. Funeral arranegments are incomplete. The body is at Eastland Funeral Home. A native of Nashville, he was a son of the late John Wesley and Teresa Horrell Alsup. He attended local schools. In 1926 he married the former Miss Elizabeth Fisher of Carthage, who survives. Mr. Alsup was a veteran of World War I and served with the Marines in France where he was awarded several decorations. He was a member of the Tennessee Odd Fellows Grand Lodge, the Shriners and Phoenix Lodge, F.&A.M. Mr. Alsup was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. June Burgess and Mrs. Joan Adcock, both of Nashville; a son Julian W. Alsup, Jr. of Ft. Bragg, NC; two sisters, Mrs. James G. Matthews and Mrs. Charles O. Keaton, both of Nashville; a brother. Eugene Alsup of Wichita, Kan., and three grandchildren. {Note, His son Julian Wesley Alsup, Jr. born 7 June 1928, Detroit, MI, died 19 December 1981, Moore Memorial Hospital, Pinehurst, NC. He married Dovie Lou Garfield, 1 July 1953, Salzburg, Austria. No Children. He was cremated}
