Obituary

Janet Lynn Adair, 71, of Columbia, MO, passed away at 10:21 am Saturday, April 15, 2023, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 am Monday, April 24, 2023, at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Rev. Matthew Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow at New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, IL.

Friends and Family are invited to Janet's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, April 24, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.

Janet was born May 12, 1951, in Quincy, IL to Paul and Marjorie (Loos) Gabriel. She was married to Jim Adair on November 15, 1980, at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. He survives.

In addition to her husband, other survivors include her son, Brian Sturhahn of Fairbanks, AK, and two brothers, Martin (Marilyn) Gabriel of Quincy, IL and Ross Gabriel of St. Ann, MO.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Marjorie Adair.

Janet was a histologist for 36 years. She was first employed by St. Mary's Hospital, later went on to work for University Hospital of Columbia, MO, and eventually retired from IDEXX.

Janet loved music and was a talented violinist. When she was in high school, she played in the school orchestra. Later she played in the pit for the Columbia Entertainment Company and Maplewood Barn Theatre. She enjoyed listening to music just as much as playing it. Chicago, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Blood Sweat & Tears were some of her favorite artists. Of course, she also loved orchestral music, specifically Mozart's Clarinet Concerto (2nd Movement). When Janet wasn't playing or listening to music, she could be found outside tending to her flower gardens or bird watching. Janet grew a variety of flowers, but she loved roses and wildflowers the most. If the television was on, you could guarantee it was tuned to the ION channel, or to a crime show like Blue Bloods or Chicago PD. Books by James Patterson and Herman Wouk, chocolate, kitty cats, and shopping at outlet malls were some of Janet's other favorite things. Above everything, Janet loved her family and enjoyed every moment she spent with them.

Pallbearers will be Roy Richmond, Matt Gabriel, Mark Gabriel, Craig Bock, Patrick Paul, and Bill Kennedy.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Epsilon Sigma Alpha International (ESA).
