Born in Dickenson County Virginia she was a daughter of the late William Harrison and Alta Belle Fuller Arrington.
She was a graduate of Haysi High School and James Madison University before pursuing Masters work at Virginia Polytechnic University and the University of Virginia. She retired from Dickenson County Public Schools teaching Science and Home Economics at Haysi High School for over 35 years.
She was a member of Dickenson First Presbyterian Church in Haysi for almost 90 years where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for over 18 years. She was very active in her community volunteering with the Dickenson County Fair and with the Haysi Autumn Fest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Powers, her only brother Daniel Arrington and a niece Sue Arrington.
Survivors include three children, Danny (Linda) Powers, George (Sally) Powers, Sharyn (Mike) Ratliff, three sisters-in-law, Brenda and Merle Powers of Haysi, VA and Norma Dabney of Orlando, Florida, niece, Martha (Jack) Farmer, six grandchildren, Bridgette Sykes, Jennifer (Matt) Sutherland, Rachel (Richard) Turrill, Christopher (Adina) Powers, Brandon Ratliff, Amanda (Roger) Cole, six great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023 at Haysi Funeral Home with Wayne Rodgers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 12 p.m. prior to the service. In of lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dickenson First Presbyterian Church of Haysi, Virginia.
