ALFANO, David Michael
Age 66, of Melrose and Falmouth, MA passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on April 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after many months battling cancer.
David was the fifth born of six children of the late Dr. Louis and late Ella Alfano. David attended Melrose High School and graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. He went on to St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. David became a Master Automotive Technician working for Acura of Peabody for many decades. He received multiple recognitions for his technical expertise and excellence over the years and was named Acura's most valued automotive technician on the East Coast. Revered by those in his field, he became a diagnostic wizard for many automotive service centers in the area. He was admired and adored by all fortunate enough to have known him. He never hesitated to help out and go the extra mile for anyone in his field of work and personal life. He had a keen and curious mind for how things worked and problem solving.
He loved Cape Cod, fishing, boating. He was an adventurous traveller having visited across Europe and the Caribbean. Cooking was a true passion, and his BBQs and smoked meats were unrivalled. David's French bouillabaisse and Italian calzones were classic. Later life he volunteered at My Brother's Table which gave him great joy and a way to give back to those less fortunate.
David is survived by his daughter, Jessica Alfano Powell and son-in-law Michael Powell, grandchild Jamison Powell, sisters and brothers, Susan and husband John Nkinyangi, Frank Alfano, Betsy Alfano-Pavidapha, Louis Jr. and wife Patricia Alfano, Mary and husband Robert Judge, along with his adoring uncle and aunts, Joseph and wife Barbara Giovino, Judy Giovino, Diane Bena, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be from 4-7 pm on Monday, 17 April 2023, at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, MA. (781) 665-1949.
A celebration of life Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Tuesday, 18 April 2023, at Incarnation Parish, 429 Upham Street, Melrose, MA.
