Addie "Ruth" Barrier Austin, 92, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Caremoor Retirement Community.

Ruth was born on July 20, 1930 in Cabarrus County. She was a cherished daughter of the late James Q. Barrier and Viola Laura Cline Barrier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James "J.P" Perry Austin.

Ruth, also known as Tootie, was a wonderful musician. She started playing piano at Brookview Baptist Church at the young age of 12. She later attended Sharon Baptist Church in Concord. Ruth enjoyed surf fishing while visiting the Outer Banks and spending time with her family. She was a kind and gentle lady that will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include her sons, Mike Austin (Linda) and Jim Austin (Sharon); grandchildren, Chris Austin, Kenny Baucom and Kevin Baucom; she was also blessed with several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00pm on Saturday April 15, 2023 at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, followed by a graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis with Rev. Billy Carrie officiating.
