Another Pioneer Has Passed Away

Alexander Henderson Lindsey, Pioneer of Western Iowa, Died Last Thursday
Alexander Henderson Lindsey was born April 26, 1837, in Harrison county, Ohio. He was the fifth son of Thomas and Sabina Lindsey. There also were three sisters in the family, all of whom passed away some years ago.
Father Lindsey was the last member of his family to part with life on this earth, which occurrence took place at the home of his son, Chas. M. Lindsey, in this city, Thursday afternoon, February 3, 1921, at two o'clock. He was stricken with Bright's disease in August of last year and was confined to his bed for over five months. Everything that loving hands could do was done for him and he was most tenderly cared for.
In the year 1863 he was united in marriage to Sarah E. Carr. To this union four sons were born, J. R. Lindsey of Wright township; William and Charles of Griswold; T. P. Lindsey of Council Bluffs.
In the fall of 1873 he, with his family, in a covered wagon, arrived at Avoca, Iowa, then a small village of three hundred people. He was one of the old pioneers of Pottawattamie county, where he spent the greater part of his life working at his trade, that of a carpenter and farmer. When a young man he united with the Church of Christ and he kept that faith until his death
He leaves to mourn his departure besides his four sons, six grandchildren, Mrs. R. X. Williams of Wright township; Elmer A. Lindsey, Mrs. Geo. Wyman and Miss Myrtle Lindsey of Griswold; Mrs. A. B. Hoyt of Des Moines; Miss Eva Lindsey of Des Moines; also four great-grandchildren, Dorothy Bell Lindsey, Kenneth Eugene Williams, Clifford Raymond Williams, and Genevieve Pearl Williams.
Father Lindsey was a member of Valley Lodge No. 493, I. O. O. F. of Hancock, Iowa. He joined the order at the age of twenty-one years at Pennsville, Ohio. He was one of the oldest Odd Fellows in this part of the state. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in this city Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. A. Carlson. The pall bearers were the four sons and four Post Grands of the Odd Fellows, Wm. Morford, B. G. Auld, C. W. Asay and George Lary, acted as honorary pall bearers. After the services at the church, the remains were taken to the Griswold cemetery where the Odd Fellows conducted the beautiful burial service. The remains were then lowered into their final resting place by the side of the wife, who passed away in 1911.
We wish in this way to express our thanks for the many acts of kindness and the beautiful floral offerings tendered during the sickness and death of our Father.
