US Congressman. A member of one of Virginia's most prominent families, he became an attorney and also owned a plantation called Meadow Farm. He served in the Virginia Senate from 1804 to 1815, and served as Senate President from 1812 to 1814. In 1824 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as an Adams candidate and served one term, 1825 to 1827. He did not run for reelection 1826 and returned to managing Meadow Farm. Taylor was the grandfather of US Senator James Taliaferro of Florida, and was a relative of Presidents James Madison and Zachary Taylor.
